APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR HANDLING HANDOVER IN WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for handling handover in a multi-hop relay cellular communication system. SOLUTION: The communication method of a relay station includes the steps of: receiving and confirming a handover request message including a candidate node list from a base station; sending to a mobile station the handover request message; and receiving and confirming from the mobile station a handover indication message indicating whether to perform a handover. The multi-hop relay system providing the handover method of the mobile station can to advantage not only warrant the communication persistence for the mobile station having mobile characteristics and but also easily accomplish cell load management and relay station configuration/arrangement or the like.
