PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a usable communication medium from usable accommodation equipment attributes matched with the demand from the nearest point equipment for the user after calculating a combination of the cable attribute of each point equipment with the accommodation equipment attribute and the accommodation condition, while taking a core wire operating method of the combination of the cable attribute with the accommodation equipment into consideration. SOLUTION: The communication medium selecting method comprises storing connection-specified information showing the connect/disconnect relation of communication media and lead-in wires in a cable to PDS equipment in every accommodation equipment according to the attributes of the cable, the accommodation equipment and the PDS equipment, reading out the connection-specified information for every accommodation equipment, calculating the use condition and the use rate of each accommodation equipment, deciding the use status of each accommodation equipment from service contents required for the demand of the communication media, comparing the use status and the use rate of each accommodation equipment with the use status of each accommodation equipment, specifying the wiring point according to the comparison result, and selects a communication medium from the cable at the specified wiring point.
