PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing coke in which a high strength coke can be obtained by controlling a grinding particle size of a high expansion coefficient coal even if a great deal of a low-cost non-slightly caking coal is blended. SOLUTION: In this method for producing coke, coal is classified based on its character into a high expansion coefficient coal, a low reflectance low expansion coefficient coal and a high reflectance low expansion coefficient coal to grind the coal according to the classification and to blend the coal. After blending, the blended coal is charged in a coke oven and carbonized. The grinding and blending are performed to satisfy the relationship of [a formulation ratio(%) of the low reflectance low expansion coefficient coal≥150×bulk density of coal charge(t/m<SP>3</SP>)-82.5] and so that a mass ratio of the high expansion coefficient coal of≥6 mm becomes≥3% and≤5%.
