PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the conventional problem of an increase in power consumption and a reduction in access speed caused by the enlargement of an entire optical pickup device which occurs because a plurality of objective lens actuators and a switching mechanism for switching the plurality of objective lens actuators are always mounted on a pickup base. SOLUTION: A single pickup base 5 is provided with a plurality of optical systems including a plurality of light sources or optical elements corresponding to the disk formats of optical disks 2a and 2b. An optical pickup device driving mechanism 4 moves the pickup base 5 in a disk radial direction during recording/reproducing in an optical disk. An objective lens actuator holding section 7 stores and switches objective lens actuators 6a and 6b in a position apart from the pickup base 5.
