PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat display device equipped with a thermostat capable of keeping the resistance value of a resistance layer constant by cooling and controlling a panel after sensing the temperature in the panel in an electron emission element having the resistance layer formed. SOLUTION: A flat panel display device which includes an electron emission substrate and an image forming substrate spaced apart from each other at a specified interval with a spacer disposed between them includes a measuring element comprising a line for measurement formed in a display area on the electron emission substrate at the same time with a cathode line and pads for measurement formed at upper and lower ends of a non-display area at the same time with the cathode pad; a power supply part which is coupled to the pad for measurement formed at the upper end and supplies electric power; a sensing part which is coupled to the pad for measurement formed at the lower end and detects electric power supplied to the power supply part; a temperature control means which converts a power value sensed by the sensing part into a temperature value to control temperature; and a cooler for cooling of the electron emission substrate to be at the temperature value controlled by the temperature control means.
