The method involves manufacturing of reference die (42) or at least a reference stamp. The reference die is mounted on the die plate (14). The position of the top edge of the reference die is measured and the position value is stored with the optical measuring device which is alternatively arranged on base plate (16) or die plate. The reference die is mounted on the die plate. A sum of reference die values and reference stamp values are formed and stored as distance of the adapter plate to die plate. An independent claim is included for formation of reference with powder press.
