The invention relates to a salt core and to a method for producing a salt core for creating a mold cavity in an article shaped by a casting process. The production of the salt core involves the following method steps: homogeneously mixing a granular salt with a phosphate-containing refractory binder; pouring the mixed salt into a form tool for forming a salt core, and; compacting the mold core under pressure and/or at an increased temperature. The invention also relates to a salt core for use in a casting process that can involve pressurization.
