PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an ink cartridge mounting state detecting unit, capable of independently detecting the mounting states of ink cartridges at a low cost. SOLUTION: A detection resistor R1 is shorted by a short pin (shorting conductor) S1 with an ink cartridge 311 (I/C1) mounted on an ink cartridge mounting part 14. In the same manner, detection resistors R2-R7 are shorted each by short pins S2-S7 with ink cartridges 312 (I/C2)-317 (I/C7) mounted on the ink cartridge mounting part 14. An output voltage of a first ink cartridge detection circuit is outputted to an A/D port 1. A first partial voltage resistance r2 and a second partial voltage resistance r1 have resistance values of a 2:210 resistance ratio. The resistance ratio of the detection resistors R1-R4 are 2<SP>0</SP>:2<SP>1</SP>:2<SP>2</SP>:2<SP>3</SP>=1:2:4:8 with respect to the first partial voltage resistance r2 and the second partial voltage resistance r1.
