The device (1) has a pre-treatment area operating with an aqueous treatment fluid e.g. water, and a dehumidifier device (33) for drying of the aqueous treatment fluid that adheres on a surface of workpieces (3). The dehumidifier device has circular magnetrons (37) for drying of the aqueous treatment fluid, where the workpieces are from plastic or metal. The magnetrons are arranged around a conveyance path (5) of the workpieces. An independent claim is also included for a method of for wet-chemical pre-treatment of a surface of a workpiece that is to be varnished.
