PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form stitches with excellent appearance by reliably preventing hitch stitches even in the case of any stitch forming directions regardless of a sewing speed. SOLUTION: Pattern sewing control is started (S11) and stitch data is read (S15). Then, the stitch forming direction from the needle fall position of the (I-1)-th stitch toward the needle fall position of the first stitch is calculated (S17). When the calculated stitch forming direction is within a stitch forming direction range and also a route switch mechanism is switched (S18:Yes, S20:Yes), the rotation speed of a sewing machine motor is forcibly decelerated so as to slow down the sewing speed (S22). Thus, a time till a sewing needle pierces a fabric to be processed is prolonged, so that a bobbin thread feeding route is alternatively and reliably switched to a right route and a left route till the sewing needle pierces the fabric to be processed.
