PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent having water-absorbing fibers, which is adjusted in mainly the orientation of the fibers and further the basis weight and the shape. SOLUTION: The absorbent 110 is oriented vertically and laterally and contains the water-absorbing fibers. It has a low basis weight area which is continuously formed being oriented vertically with the basis weight lower than the average basis weight in the absorbent 110 and a high basis weight areas which are formed along the low basis weight area on both sides of the low basis weight area with the basis weight higher than the average basis weight in plurality. Each of the plurality of high basis weight areas makes the content of the vertically oriented fibers in the fibers 101 making up the high basis weight area higher than that of the laterally oriented fibers. Each of the plurality of low basis weight areas makes the content of the laterally oriented fibers in the fibers 101 making up the low basis weight area higher than that of the vertically oriented fibers.
