The system includes a multilayer detector, a processor and a display for reconstructing images. The processor receives a number of multilayer scan data and identifies at least one section of an instrument, such as biopsy needle, in at least one layer from multilayer scan data. The processor indicates the identified instrument section with an indicator associated with at least one layer. The indicator may be a color, shadow or pattern.
