A METHOD FOR PRODUCING DECORATED FOOD PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY CONFECTIONARY ITEMS, FOR EXAMPLE, CAKES OR PASTRIES COMPRISING PRODUCING A RELIEF IMAGE USING A GENERALLY PLANAR FLEXIBLE MOULD (1) CARRYING ON ITS SURFACE RAISED (2) AND DEPRESSD (3) AREAS OR LINES FORMING THE OUTLINES OF A DECORATION THAT IS DESIRED TO BE PLACED ON THE FOOD PRODUCT, BY CASTING ONTO THE MOULD (1) A SETTABLE EDIBLE MATERIAL, ALLOWING THE SETTABLE MATERIAL TO SET, STRIPPING THE MOULD (1) FROM THE SET MATERIAL AND APPLYING DECORATIVE MATERIAL TO THE RELIEF PATTERN ON THE SURFACE OF THE SET MATERIAL USING THE DEFINED LINES OR AREAS OF THE SURFACE PATTERN AS A GUIDE. THE SETTABLE MATERIAL MAY BE, FOR EXAMPLE, CHOCOLATE, ICE-CREAM, SUGAR ICING OR OTHER MATERIAL THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO THE SURFACE OF THE MOULD (1) AND WILL FLOW INTO THE DEPRESSED AREAS (3) ON THE MOULD (1) SO THAT THE PATTERN OF THE MOULD IS CARRIED ONTO THE SET MATERIAL.(FIG.1)
