PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lifting mechanism simple with excellent durability and maintainability and capable of lifting and positioning with constant force and good operability regardless of the height position of a workbench adjustable in height and positioned by manual force. SOLUTION: This extensible post comprises an upright pipe-like fixed member and a pipe-like or rod-like lifting member enclosed in a vertically movable manner in the fixed member, wherein a sliding guide plate is provided at the upper part of the fixed member, and a sliding guide block is provided at the lower part of the lifting member. A container body of a constant load spring is mounted close to the upper end of the fixed member, and the tip of a coil-like leaf spring of the constant load spring is mounted close to the lower end of the lifting member so that the lifting member is energized when lifted. As the material of the leaf spring of the constant load spring, material with a thermal refining mark EH of a stainless steel band for a spring (JIS G 4313) SUS301-CSP is used, and this material is further subjected to low temperature annealing for 1-2 hours at 400-420°C for use.
