Retainer has a main body (1) with a magnetic circuit including poles (P1, P2) forming an end contact face (2) against which a mobile polar plate (3) is supported. The circuit has a core (4) with an end (5) forming the pole (P1) and another end connected by a transversal bottom wall to a coaxial tubular portion whose free end (9) forms the pole (P2). A magnetic excitation coil (10) occupies an inner annular space (11) between the core and portion. The poles (P1, P2) have a conical hole (14) and an outer beveled edge (13) of sections (S1, S2) near the ends (5, 9), respectively. An independent claim is also included for: a method of assembling an electromagnetic retainer.
