Disclosed herein is a use of biochemical substances comprising a catechin compound selected from the group consisting of epicatechins, epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, and epigallocatechin gallate; an anti-oxidant which may be selected from the group consisting of ascorbic acid, tocopherols, tocotrienols, carotinoids, glutathione, aiphalipoic acid, ubiquinols, bioflavonoids, and carnitine; a proline; and lysine for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of human diseases associated with an elevated matrix-metalloproteinase activity, wherein the human disease is selected from the group consisting of neoplastic diseases, inflammatory diseases, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases, degenerative diseases, neurological diseases and autoimmune diseases.
