A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent discharge between X and Y electrodes during an address period by reducing voltage difference between the X and Y electrodes. A plasma display apparatus includes plural first and second electrodes, plural third electrodes across the first and second electrodes, and plural discharge cells formed by the first, second, and third electrodes. During an address period for selecting non-light emitting cells among light emitting cells of plural discharge cells, a scan pulse(VscL) is applied to the second electrodes while applying negative first voltages to the first electrodes. While applying the first voltages to the first electrodes, an address pulse(Va) is applied to the third electrodes of non-light emitting cells among light emitting cells formed by the scan pulses applied first electrode.
