The method involves determining a parameter for controlling a heating element in a combustion chamber. The heating element is activated during starting of an admission phase of a cylinder, where the starting of the admission phase is determined by an angular position of a camshaft, crankshaft and inlet valve of the cylinder. The supply of the heating element is cut during an exhaust phase of the cylinder.
