The server (12) has a user identification unit (22) connected to the server using terminals (14) connected to the server. A verifying unit (23) verifies that an identified user belongs to a preset user group and refuses the access of the user to the server when the user does not belong to the group. The verifying unit has a digital data encrypting unit (18) for carrying out a cryptographic operation for the user belonging to the group using a private encryption key associated to the group. An independent claim is also included for a method for encrypting digital data.
