<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter for detecting an abnormality in a smoothing capacitor without applying a high voltage to a main circuit, and preventing thermal effects on damaged regions and peripheral components. <P>SOLUTION: When a motor driver 100 is activated, a controller 180 turns off a relay 150 and turns on a relay 161. A voltage lower than an output from a battery 140 divided by resistors 162, 163 is applied between input terminals 111, 112 of an inverter 110. The controller 180 detects a voltage across the smoothing capacitor 130 by a voltage monitor 170, and detects the existence of the abnormality in the smoothing capacitor 130 by checking whether the smoothing capacitor 130 is charged within a predetermined time. If there is no abnormality in the smoothing capacitor 130, the relay 161 is turned off, the relay 150 is turned on, the output from the battery 140 is directly applied to the inverter 110, and a desired motor driving signal is generated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
