PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IP conversion processing apparatus capable of properly interpolating a line signal even at a corner part of edges of an image so as to carry out IP conversion processing and to provide a control method thereof. SOLUTION: An in-field interpolation signal generating circuit 9 basically uses a direction of the edge of each interpolation pixel discriminated by an edge direction discrimination circuit 5 to interpolate pixel values between lines of a video signal of a present frame related to interlace scanning. However, when the edge direction discrimination circuit 5 discriminates an interpolation pixel related to the corner part of the edge to be in an oblique direction, the oblique direction is corrected to be a vertical direction by a shape discrimination circuit 6 and the resulting signal is fed to the in-field interpolation signal generating circuit 9.
