PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roller chain capable of making a contact area small when the chain is brought into contact with a guide member, which makes the friction resistance small, and to reduce friction loss occurring at the time of power transmission. SOLUTION: The roller chain 1 is formed by connecting an outer link 4 composed of a pair of outer link plates 2, and an inner link 7 composed of a pair of inner link plates 5, which are alternately connected by pins 3. When the distance from a pitch line P of the roller chain 1 to the outer most end faces 2b, 5b of the link plates 2, 5 is a back surface height, a back surface height H1 of the outer link plates 2 is formed lower than a back surface height H2 of the inner link plates 5. When the roller chain 1 is brought into sliding contact with the guide member, friction loss can be reduced because the outer link plates 2 is not contacted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
