The invention relates to apparatus (1) and a process for removing air bubbles from refilled ink jet cartridges. The apparatus (1) has a vacuum chamber (2) for reception of a refilled ink jet cartridge. A vacuum pump (3) has an inlet connected by an air pipe (4) to the vacuum chamber (2). The vacuum pump (3) is operable to extract air from the vacuum chamber (2) to create a vacuum within the vacuum chamber (2) for removal of air from the ink jet cartridge. A restrictor valve (5) in the air pipe (4) controls air flow through the air pipe (4) so that the vacuum within the vacuum chamber (2) is gradually increased at a slow and controlled pace to the required level. Thereafter the vacuum is released by stopping the vacuum pump and allowing air to vent back through the air pipe (4) into the vacuum chamber (2). The restrictor valve (5) in the air pipe (4) c?ntrols air flow to ensure a slow and controlled increase in air pressure within fhe vacuum chamber (2) until atmospheric pressure is reached within the vacuum chamber (2). The de-aerated refilled ink jet cartridge can then be removed from the vacuum chamber (2). |
