This invention relates to methods and apparatus for magnetising a superconductor, in particular to flux pumps, and to new types magnetised superconductor. A method of changing the magnetisation of a superconductor, the method comprising automatically controlling a magnetic field to generate a wave of changing magnetic flux travelling over a surface of said superconductor.
