PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method of steel, which method can manufacture a cast ingot having excellent internal quality by surely controlling the discharge flow from an immersed nozzle. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic agitating device 3 is arranged in the neighborhood of a long side meniscus of a casting mold 1 having a rectangular cross section so as to be opposed to the long side meniscus. In addition, an electromagnetic brake 4 is arranged under the electromagnetic agitating device 3 so as to satisfy the relations of the following expressions (1) and (2): L-α≤l, and L+α≥l+(W/2)tanθ, [where L is the distance (mm) from the meniscus to the center of the core of the electromagnetic brake,αis the distance (mm) from the center of the core to the position where the maximum magnetic flux density of the electromagnetic brake decays to 50%, l is the immersed depth (mm) of the immersed nozzle,θis the discharge angle (°) of molten steel, and W is the width (mm) of the casting mold in the lateral direction].
