PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ion-exchange fiber having high ion-exchange capacity and excellent strength and electrical conductivity and a method for producing a fabric made of an ion-exchange fiber having the above-mentioned properties. SOLUTION: The method for producing an ion-exchange fiber comprises the treatment of a polyvinyl alcohol fiber with gaseous sulfur trioxide, and the method for producing a fabric made of an ion-exchange fiber comprises the treatment of a fabric made of a polyvinyl alcohol fiber with gaseous sulfur trioxide.
