PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a giga-bit Ether multiplexer flexibly expandable without taking care of various maintenance operation restraints or an influence on service accompanied by the termination of 8B10B codes of configuration order sets, etc. for giga-bit Ether signals, when a network constitution is changed accompanied by the variation of a line demand, etc. SOLUTION: Positive/negative staffing is executed for 8B10B codes left as they are while maintaining the normality of the 8B10B codes and the continuity of the running disparity without terminating the 8B10B codes of a plurality of received giga-bit Ether signals, and multiplexing/demultiplexing is executed after synchronizing the plurality of signals. This allows the plurality of signals composed of 8B10B to be multiplexed and demultiplexed without changing the 8B10B codes, thus enabling the transparent transmission of managing information contained in the 8B10B codes between user apparatuses.
