An alkaline battery according to the present invention includes: a power generation element including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator placed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and an electrolyte; a positive terminal portion electrically connected to the positive electrode; and a negative terminal portion electrically connected to the negative electrode. The negative electrode contains zinc powder or zinc alloy powder containing 15% by weight or more of particles having a particle size of 75 mum or less as a negative active material. A PTC element is provided in a current path that does not come into contact with the electrolyte at least one of between the positive electrode and the positive terminal portion and between the negative electrode and the negative terminal portion.
