The device has a number of. metric modules (3-5), each for carrying out at least one software metric (7-10) for determining a quality parameter (12,12') of the software unit (2), a memory module for storing at least one quality parameter and a call-up module for analyzing the software metrics in relation to dependencies between the metrics and calling up the metrics in a sequence taking account of the dependencies. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a method of determining quality parameters of software unit for memory programmable controllers for automation applications (B) a computer program product for selecting metric modules for implementing software metrics.
