<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus in which it is possible to make the sizes or qualities of image data for recording close to each other even if they have different aspect modes. <P>SOLUTION: During a first aspect mode, an image processor 141 of a digital camera 100 uses image data generated with pixels of the number of horizontal pixels H1 and the number of vertical pixels V1, in pixels on a CCD 11, or image data obtained by subjecting the image data to predetermined processing to generate first image data for recording.
