<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is necessary for peripheral equipment to wait for a predetermined time until processing being executed is completed, and the peripheral equipment is shifted to a sleep mode, and that any useless power is consumed since the peripheral equipment is in a stand-by state during the waiting time in a conventional manner. <P>SOLUTION: A computer is provided with a transmission means for transmitting a sleep mode shift temporary lock command for locking the shift of the peripheral equipment side to a sleep mode for a predetermined time when a device driver or the like for controlling the operation of peripheral equipment is started.
