PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for allowing a copy-protected file in an electronic medium to be used and repaired after the file is destroyed. SOLUTION: Copy-protected data is backed up or restored so as to be reproduced on an electronic medium reproducing apparatus via a system capable of online search, and is made usable. A destroyed segment of an electronic storage medium file is identified and a location thereof is designated before the segment is read, executed and reproduced. Next, a location of an undestroyed copy from a network is designated, a software command causes an undestroyed segment of a file to be supplied to a storage device of the electronic medium restoring apparatus, and the undestroyed segment is combined with reading, execution and reproduction of the electronic storage medium file so that an output which is not distinguished from the undestroyed file is continuously generated in real time.
