PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for generating a servo error signal, capable of generating a servo error signal corresponding to more types of calculation formulas with a simple circuit, and executing highly accurate servo control. SOLUTION: This device includes a signal inversion means for inverting a plurality of analog signals output from a photodetector, a signal ON/OFF means for turning ON/OFF the plurality of analog signals output from the photodetector and analog signals output from the signal inversion means, an error signal calculating expression input means for inputting a servo error signal calculating expression, an ON/OFF control means for controlling the signal ON/OFF means based on the calculation formula input from the error signal calculation formula input means, and a first error signal generation means for adding/subtracting the analog signals turned ON by the signal ON/OFF means.
