PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of removing paper powder which has come in space between an intermediate transfer belt and a belt cleaning blade. SOLUTION: The intermediate transfer belt 70 is provided with a carrier liquid coating mechanism 90 on the upstream side of a belt cleaning blade 86 for the intermediate transfer belt 70. Carrier liquid is applied to the intermediate transfer belt 70 to which secondary transfer has been performed by a secondary transfer unit 80 by the carrier liquid coating mechanism 90. The belt cleaning blade 86 is constituted to be separable, so that the paper powder which has come in the space between the intermediate transfer belt 70 and the belt cleaning blade is washed away with the carrier liquid applied to the intermediate transfer belt 70.
