A metal work piece (1) consists of a machined, laser-formed or spar-eroded lower section (2), and an upper section (3) formed in situ by sintered or molten metal powder. The lower section incorporates one or more cooling passages (9) formed by a machining process. The cooling passage extends into upper section. The same type of metal is employed in both the upper and lower sections. The lower section incorporates a substrate (4) layer onto which the upper section is formed by sintering or molten metal. The substrate metal is that same as that of the upper section. The upper section surfaces (6, 7) are formed by laser-cutting. The material employed for the upper section has higher heat conductivity than that for the lower section. The lower section has higher load-bearing characteristics than that of the upper section. The lower section incorporates a hole for a clamp bolt. |
