A state of the art vehicle is equipped with various function or situation indicating devices either creating an acoustic signal or appearing on a screen or instrument. Being simultaneously confronted with a multitude of different kinds of information (P0,P1,P2,P3,P4) can be dangerous in a difficult traffic situation. The experienced driver starts feeling tense (WL) already when a difficult situation is to be expected. The amount of information released is determined by the stress level of the driver. Some information (P2) is suppressed temporarily when a threshold value is exceeded.
