<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus with a persistence preventing function, in which execution of "persistence preventing function" is controlled, while suppressing cost increase. <P>SOLUTION: An image content information acquiring section 13 is provided, and program information (for example, genre information) and setting of on/off of the persistence preventing function is related and stored in a memory section 16. Thereby, the program information of an image (program) displayed on a display section 17 is acquired by the image content information acquiring section 13, and according to the setting of on/off of the persistence preventing function which is related to the program information, on/off of the persistence preventing function is controlled.
