PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of a head cap or the like which can continuously control the state of clogging of the head cap. SOLUTION: The control method of the head cap 40 separately adjoing and maintaining a functional liquid drop discharge head 19 is provided with an air-sucking process for air-sucking by a sucking means 43 linked to the head cap 40 in a state of keeping the head cap 40 away from the functional liquid drop discharge head 19, a pressure measuring process for measuring the pressure of the inside of the flow passage of a sucking flow passage 44 connecting the head cap 40 with the sucking means 43 in a state of air sucking, and a cap control process for controlling the defect of the head cap 40 and the sucking flow passage 44 based on the measurement result.
