PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find the beginning of video data matching with a searching condition. SOLUTION: A system control circuit 28 displays a search setting menu image on a display apparatus 20. A user sets the searching condition on the menu image. The reproducing apparatus drives a magnetic tape 26 at a high speed to reproduce recorded video data. A detection section 32 detects a compression system, a video system, a frame rate, and an aspect ratio of the reproduced video data. The reproducing apparatus drives the magnetic tape 26 at an ordinary reproduction speed from the video data matching with the searching condition to reproduce and display the video data.
