PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission provided with a thrust bearing capable of efficiently and positively supplying lubricating oil to a rolling element without providing an oil groove. SOLUTION: In the toroidal type continuously variable transmission, a retainer 27 has an outer side opposing face 125 facing an outer ring, and an inner side opposing face 127 facing an inner ring. In at least one radial inner side of the outer side opposing face 125 and the inner side opposing face 127, plural first protrusions 400 positioned between adjacent pockets 120 are provided along a circumferential direction away from each other. In at least one radial outer side of the outer side opposing face 125 and the inner side opposing face 127, plural second protrusions 300 separated by spaces S1 between adjacent pockets 120 are provided along the circumferential direction.
