PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to change a groove width of shifting pulleys without using a hydraulic device in a belt type continuously variable transmission for mounting on an input shaft and an output shaft the shifting pulleys equipped with a function for changing the groove width by having a pair of opposing split pulleys forming the V-shaped groove to approach/depart from each other by using screw shafts having a right screw and a left screw, and winding a transmission belt around the shifting pulleys and relatively changing the winding diameter to perform shifting. SOLUTION: The shifting pulleys 3 and 4 are mounted on the input shaft 1 and the output shaft 2, respectively, and the screw shafts 32 and 42 engaged and equipped to the shifting pulleys 3 and 4, and a shifting means for linking and winding a roller chain 7 to a shifting shaft 5 provided in the middle of the screw shafts 32 and 42 are provided in an inner peripheral space of the transmission belt 8 wound on the shifting pulleys 3 and 4.
