PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a resol phenol resin which is excellent in curability and heat resistance and is substantially free of or contains an extremely small amount of unreacted monomers. SOLUTION: In the method for preparing the resol type phenol resin, a polyvalent phenolic compound (A) is reacted with aldehydes, wherein the polyvalent phenolic compound (A) comprises aromatic compounds that contain phenolic hydroxyl groups and are connected to each other via hydrocarbons having cyclic structures.
