PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver and a television receiver whereby the operability of a user is much more improved in the case of selecting data outputted from an external device. SOLUTION: A detection means (e.g. a CPU 142 and a detection program 144b or the like) in the television receiver 100 detects the presence/absence of an input of an RF signal from an RF input terminal in a preset timing, and an external input changeover means (e.g. the CPU 142 and an external input switching program 144c or the like) selects the frequency of the RF signal to select a channel to be received when the detection means detects the input of the RF signal from the RF input terminal.
