PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a currency handling apparatus in which an automatic transaction apparatus can perform transaction even when a bill cassette is in replacement. SOLUTION: A bill depositing/withdrawing part 2 provided with a plurality of bill cassettes 5 arranged so as to be freely ejected to the outside of the apparatus is provided with a lock mechanism 10 for stopping the ejection of the bill cassettes 5 on a position where at least one bill cassette 5 is left in the bill depositing/withdrawing part 2 when the bill cassette 5 is ejected. Further, an auxiliary bill carrier 12 connected to a 10,000 yen bill cassette 5a left in the bill depositing/withdrawing part 2 during the ejection of the bill cassette 5 is formed in the bill depositing/withdrawing part 2.
