Piston ring for internal combustion engine has marking on upper face of ring with binary coding

The piston ring has a peripheral running face (2) to engage the cylinder, an upper (3) and lower face and an inner peripheral face (4). At least one of these faces has a marking (6) at a pre-set position. The marking can be on the upper face of the ring and can be formed by laser marking to form an 8x5 pixel matrix. The matrix can have binary code fields.
