PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking assisting device and a parking assisting method, capable of certainly storing a vehicle at a position parallel with a parking frame line. SOLUTION: A frame line end portion detecting portion 11 recognizes the parking frame line behind the vehicle. Of the parking frame lines, concerning the parking frame line inside of a turning track when the vehicle travels backward, an end portion near the vehicle of the parking frame line is set as a reference point. An allowance circle having a radius of a predetermined distance about the reference point is set by an allowance circle setting portion 12. An angle detecting portion 14 detects an angle between a depth direction of the parking frame line and a fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle. A steering start line setting portion 15 sets a contact point on an allowance circle at a position on the basis of the detected angle on the allowance circle. An arc contacting with the allowance circle at the contact point on the allowance circle, having a radius of a distance obtained by subtracting the radius of the allowance circle from the minimum rotating radius when the vehicle travels backward, is set as a full steering start line.
