PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sorting apparatus which can achieve an improved sorting precision between metal and waste plastics and mitigate the manual sorting work, even in cases where a to-be-sorted material involves light metal-deposited waste plastics and/or high-specific-gravity waste plastics. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 has: a carrying section 2 carrying a sorting target material 10; a metal-detecting section 3 detecting a metal 11 in the material 10 carried by the carrying section 2; a sorting section 4 having a guiding section 41 for the material 10 which allows switching between (1) the first guiding posture guiding the material 10 supplied from the carrying section 2 through falling to the section 42 collecting the nonmetallic and (2) the second guiding posture guiding the material 10 to the section 43; and a posture-switching mechanism switching the guiding section 41 from the first to the second guiding posture when the metal 11 is supplied through falling. The apparatus 1 is equipped with a nozzle mechanism 6 which injects a sorting gas into the material 10 supplied through falling so as to guide light matter to the section 42 collecting the nonmetallic, when the guiding section 41 is in the second guiding posture.
