SEPARATOR FOR POLYMER ELECTROLYTE TYPE FUEL CELL AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A separator which comprises a metallic base having grooves on at least one side thereof and a resin layer formed by electrodeposition so as to coat the metallic base therewith, wherein this resin layer has a constitution in which the layer comprises a conductive material and a water-repellent material or a constitution in which the resin layer contains a conductive material and at least those parts of the resin layer which are located in the grooves are coated with a water-repellent layer. Due to the constitution, the separator for use in a polymer electrolyte type fuel cell is less apt to cause flooding (clogging with water), is excellent in strength and corrosion resistance, and can be produced at a lower cost.
