PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the locking of a circulation pump and enable the better detection of the locking of the circulation pump with a simple structure in a washing machine equipped with the circulation pump for the circulation of water in a water tank through a circulation water path. SOLUTION: In the washing machine with the circulation pump for the circulation of water within a water tank through a circulation water path, a pump motor of the circulation pump is constituted of a brushless DC motor capable of fast rotation with a freely controllable rotation speed. The rotational speed of the pump motor should be 4,600 rpm normally, for instance. The rotational speed of the pump motor is detected with a rotation sensor having a Hall element: when the rotational speed detected with the rotation sensor is below a preset threshold value (e.g. 500 rpm), the drive of the pump motor is stopped (step S2-S4) with the determination that the locking of the circulation pump occurs.
