PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an autofocus device, capable of enhancing accuracy in AF processing by applying an HPF according to the photographing circumstances, and to provide its program. SOLUTION: When a shutter button is depressed by a user in the midst of displaying a through-image, the image data of one imaged by a CCD 4 is acquired (S1). Based on the luminance signal Y of the acquired image data, whether a high-luminance region or a low-luminance region exists in a focus area is decided (S2 and S3). When it is decided that both a high-luminance region and a low-luminance region exist in the focus area (Y in S3), it is decided the subject includes a point light source of night scene, and the cut-off frequency of the HPF 9 is set high (S4); while when it is decided that the high-luminance region or the low-luminance region does not exist in the focus region (N in S2 and N in S3), it is decided the subject is low-contrast, and the cut-off frequency of the HPF 9 is set low (S5).
